Below we feature an interview with the owner of Barney, a male Cavachon.
Can you tell us who you are and where you live?
My name is Claire; I live in Derbyshire in England.
How long have you owned a Cavachon?
4 1/2 years.

Where did you buy him from?
A breeder in Blackpool.
From your experience what makes this breed so special?
They are intelligent, playful, good with children and a pleasure to be with.
What type of personality/temperament do they have?
Calm and friendly.
I believe the Cavachon is quite a popular dog on social media/Internet these days, can you tell us how this started?

I’m not sure – I think people like to document their lives on social media – so why not do the same for your pets?
What are your feeding routines, such as how often and what types of food do you feed the Cavachon?
Barney likes 2 bowls of biscuits a day and a couple of treats. Royal Canin or Science Plan.
Have you encountered any health issues?
None at all – they are strong dogs.
Obviously grooming is another major aspect of owning a Cavachon, can you offer any tips, advice and popular accessories for your Cavachon?
Barney has a haircut every 6 weeks. We always trim him short on his undercarriage as that is close to the ground and gets very muddy.
Any other useful tips and advice that you can offer to potential new owners?
Barney’s mum is a Bichon Frise and his dad is a King Charles Cavalier – if you want the curly coat then this is the way they should be bred. Both Barney’s parents were pedigree dogs – I would advise this as then you can check the health of the parents beforehand.
Thanks Claire for this wonderful interview and for sharing the photos of Barney. If you want to find out more, you can visit this page:

Below we feature another interview this time with Joyce, the owner of Thor, a male Cavachon.
Can you tell us who you are and where you live?
Joyce, Union County, New Jersey, USA.

How long have you owned a Cavachon?
5 years this coming June.
Where did you buy him/her from?
I purchased Thor from a pet store in southern NJ. I got him as an unplanned birthday gift for myself.
From your experience what makes this breed so special?
Having grown up with a variety of dog breeds and mixes, I find Thor to be the most predictable and sweet natured dog I have ever had. He is also not as yappy as a lot of smaller dogs. I do not know if this is exclusive to the breed or merely his personality. I also have not witnessed any kind of aggression in him. But being half CKCS (CAvalier King Charles Spaniel), I have observed an affinity for small animals like squirrels, bunnies and birds. I do not trust him around them. 🙂
I believe the Cavachon is quite a popular dog on social media/Internet these days, can you tell us how this started?
Cavachons have very expressive eyes. I cannot say for sure how this started but I can only speak for myself. I started a social media account for Thor as a venue to post his photos for my friends to visit. He loves getting dressed up. I love taking his pictures (though not always the easiest task).
What are your feeding routines, such as how often and what types of food do you feed the Cavachon?
Thor gets 2 mall meals per day which consist of dry kibble (Acana) and a dollop of canned pumpkin puree on top.

Have you encountered any health issues?
No major health issues so far but he has had infrequent bouts of blocked anal glands. The canned pumpkin puree seem to help.
Obviously grooming is another major aspect of owning a Cavachon, can you offer any tips, advice and popular accessories for your Cavachon?
Low maintenance dogs, they are not. An early introduction to frequent brushing is a must as they are prone to getting knots and matted fur which can be uncomfortable for them if left unaddressed. I use a slicker brush and wide tooth metal comb, along with shears to maintain his coat.
Some Cavachon owners have complained about their puppies’ tear stains. I had this problem with Thor as a pup. I find that keeping the stain-prone area cut short help. I use blunt-tipped scissors for this and a small plastic flea comb to clean out any discharge stuck on the fur around the eyes.
Thanks Joyce for this wonderful interview and for sharing the photos of Thor. If you want to find out more, you can visit this page:
